TALENT ALERT: AUSTRALIA’S FIRST RENEWABLES RUN HOSPITAL

AUSTRALIA will soon have its first renewable-powered hospital. This morning the ACT Government announced that the Canberra Hospital Expansion will run on 100% renewable electricity.

The Climate Council welcomes this announcement as it will create jobs, investment, and lower emissions - protecting Australians into the future.

EXPERTS AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT:

Professor Will Steffen, Climate Councillor and climate change expert. Location: Canberra

"As a climate scientist and as a resident of Canberra for over 40 years, it is especially gratifying to see Canberra Hospital become fully renewable-powered. It is particularly important that the hospital does not consume any gas, which is now looming as the biggest obstacle to meeting the Paris Agreement climate goals."

"This milestone solidifies the ACT Government's position as the national leader on climate action, showing that actions consistent with meeting the Paris goals can also yield social and economic benefits."

Dr Kate Charlesworth, Climate Councillor and public health physician. Location: Sydney

“The health system has a responsibility to use clean, healthy renewable energy. As a doctor, I therefore welcome this announcement about Australia’s first fully renewable-powered hospital.”

“The Australian health sector is a significant contributor to our national carbon emissions. By switching to renewable energy it has a tremendous opportunity to improve health, create new jobs and reduce our emissions.”
